Matete Motsoaledi

As a teaser for the 2021 edition of our festival, there will be a performance by Matete Motsoaledi. He is a performing poet, musician and photographer form the Mpulanga province of South Africa. Hij writes mainly in Sepedi, to contribute to the advancement and preservation of this native language.

Motsoaledi met curator Philip Meersman in Durban in 2018. This meeting resulted in some communal projects, poetic as well as musical. Their first single, ‘E bonwe ke mang / An Orphan’s cry’ is the result of this long-distance collaboration and will be presented visually during this edition of the festival.
